  • The 6th Resident Research Day was held on June 6, 2015 at Gefinor Rotana Hotel. More news will follow in the Summer issue of the Stork.

  • The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in collaboration with Royal college of Obstetrics and Gynecology held on May 2-5, 2015 the MRCOG Preparatory Course part I at AUBMC. More details will follow in the summer newsletter.
  • May 8, 2015 was a special day for our department. It witnessed the dedication of the newly renovated Suite 711 on 7 North after Dr. Ibrahim Mufarrij.
  • January 16, 2015 was a special day for our department. It witnessed the dedication of the newly renovated Suite on 7 North after Ghalia Ayman Jomaa. Ghalia's parents, Mr. Ayman and Mrs. Mayssa Jomaa wanted to honor, through their daughter, every woman who had to fight a tough battle to become a mother. Our Winter 2015 Newsletter issue features details of the event.

            

  • The second workshop "My Path to Motherhood", organized by the Women's Health Center took place on December 13, 2014 at Phoenicia Hotel. It was very well-attended and evaluated by the audience. More news to follow in the Winter Newsletter.

       
     
  • Due to the security situation the RCOG elected to postpone the Part I Preparatory Course. New date will be posted when the activity will be resumed.
     
  • The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is proud to announce that AUBMC has become a center that offers the MRCOG exam. For this purpose and in collaboration with RCOG, we are organizing a preparatory 4-day course as an introduction to the Part I MRCOG exam. Three well experienced lecturers from the United Kingdom will present talks directed to exam syllabus.
     
  • The Residents' Graduation dinner was held this year at the Lancaster Hotel, Raouche on June 5, 2014. It was a memorable night with many surprises where graduating  residents danced with the stars and the audience enjoyed listening to classical oriental songs. More news will follow in the OBGYN Newsletter Summer issue.

         
  • On the occasion of the International Women's Day March 8, 2014, the Women's Health Center at AUBMC held a workshop at Phoenicia Hotel entitled My Path to Motherhood. Experts from various departments presented lectures on topics related to pregnancy. 140 individuals attended the interactive sessions and enjoyed a diverse brunch.
     
  • The Department of OBS/GYN made sure that everyone had a Merry Christmas by hosting its Annual Christmas dinner at the "Le Maillon Club". This year dinner featured the sale of tombola tickets to support HER Fund.  $1810 was raised to support the charitable fundraising
    initiative at AUBMC to help cover the medical expenses of needy women who suffer from critical and life threatening obstetrical and Gynecological conditions.  (more)
     
  • The inauguration of the newly-renovated Dr. Khaled Idriss Delivery Suite, on December 18, 2013. The Delivery Suite underwent  a thorough face-lift. This major renovation introduced extraordinary style and warmth to the unit. (more).  
     
  • As part of Continued Education, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is glad to introduce a series of lectures that will be addressed to nurses in DS. These lectures will be given twice per month by the Division of MFM starting June 2013 to account for different schedules of nurses. They will cover different clinical scenarios. (more).

  • For the second year, the Resident Graduation Dinner was held at Le Maillon Restaurant, Ashrafieh on June 06, 2013. The invitee spent a wonderful night enjoying various entertainment segments, the highlight of which was a classical oriental Arabic song medley. More news will follow in the OBGYN Newsletter Summer issue.

This course is expected to enhance the sonographic knowledge and competence of residents during their training.
     
  • The First Specialty Symposium "Hot Topics in Perinatal Medicine" was held on September 15, 2012  at Issam Jaroudi auditorium, Nursing School, AUB (More).   • The 5th Resident Research Day was held on July 16, 2012 at Le Bristol Hotel. The winners of the best presentations are Drs. Gael Abou Ghannam, Stephanie Fellas and Lamia Sayegh. More news will follow in the Summer issue of the Stork.
     
  • The Resident Graduation dinner was held at Le Maillon Restaurant, Ashrafieh on June 5, 2012. It was a memorable, non-classic night. More news will follow in the Summer issue of Stork.

                   
               
     
  • Congratulations to Mrs. Christiane Soubhie, the Unit Coordinator of the Women's Health Center, the winner of the "Nurse Recognition Award for OBS/GYN RNs"
     
  • Dr. Anwar Nassar announced the establishment of the Divisions of Maternal Fetal Medicine (Head: Ihab Usta, MD) and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (Head: Johnny Awwad). The Head of the Division will report directly to the Chairperson and will be responsible for the academic program, clinical service, administration, growth and development of the Division.
     
  • A Departmental Christmas Dinner was held on Dec. 14, 2011 at the Bristol Hotel. More details in the OBS Newsletter winter edition.


     
  • Dr. Anwar Nassar  was appointed as Interim Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology effective immediately. (more) (pdf format).

  • Dr. Anwar Nassar was appointed Acting Chairman of the department Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr. Muhieddine Seoud as the Vice Chairman effective July 18, 2011.(more) (pdf format)

  • The Women's Health center at the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology - AUB-MC and in collaboration with the Choices and Challenges in Changing Childbirth (CCCC) network at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Lebanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (LSOG) and the Ministry Of Public Health held its first national symposium on Transforming Maternity Care in Lebanon”, on October 1, 2010, at Issam Fares Auditorium, AUBMC.   • On October 7, Dr. Adnan Mroueh, Chairman, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr. Anwar Nassar, the coordinator of the Med III OBS/GYN clerkship, distributed certificates of Excellence and prizes for the three medical students with the best presentation during the academic year 2008-2009. The winners were: Jad Bou Monsef, Laurice Bou Nemr and Akl Fahd. Congratulations!

               
     
  • Dr. Anwar Nassar, the coordinator of the Med III Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship, has received the Teaching Excellence Award for the academic year 2008-2009 in a ceremony held at Ada Dodge Hall and attended by the President of the University, Dr. Peter Dorman, the acting Provost, Dr. Waddah Nasr, the Dean of the Medical School, Dr. Nadim Cortas, and students, residents, colleagues and Family. The president said of Nassar," Anwar Nassar combines many talents: excellent physician, valued colleague, and gifted teacher. Extremely popular among medical students, Anwar engages them with enigmatic lectures which provoke analytical thinking and inspire excellence." Dorman also praised Nassar for constantly remaining updated on scientific developments in order to educate his students on the latest  advancements in their field of study. He added, "Faculty members in Medicine must perform a balancing act including substantial clinical work, which Dr. Nassar also excels at, having previously been awarded resident of the year." He then presented him with his award.

  • Congratulations to Dr. Anwar Nassar who was recently elected as a member of the ALPHA OMEGA ALPHA (AΩA) honor medical society.

     

        
     
  • The Fourth Resident Research Day took place on Thursday, July 24, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Holiday Inn, Dunes, Beirut - Lebanon. This annual event gives OB/GYN residents a chance to showcase research work to an audience of faculty and peers. A cocktail dinner followed.
    Topics presented were varied and many rotated around a common theme of performance indicators like the cesarean delivery rate, amniocentesis complication rate and progesterone use for the prevention of preterm delivery. Most of research projects presented in previous years have generated publications and presentations at international meetings.
     


    The following papers were awarded top honors:

    First Place: Prevention of IUGR in a rat model using Sildenafil Citrate. By Hana Itani, M.D. Collaborators: Anwar Nassar, M.D., Ihab Usta, M.D., Khalil 1i Abi Nader, M.D., Karim Masruah, Abdo Jurjus, M.D

    Second Place: Pregnancy Complications after Amniocentesis: A 5-Year Experience. By Randa Jalloul, M.D. Collaborators: Anwar Nassar, M.D., M.D., Ihab Usta, M.D., Abdallah Adra, M.D., Fadi Dahdaleh

    Third Place: Primary Cesarean Delivery Rate: Is it Related to the Physicians's subspecialty? By Tarek Khalife, M.D. Collaborators: Tony Abu-Musa, M.D., Anwar Nassar, M.D., Ihab Usta, M.D., Khaled Musallam, Youssef Munayyar

    Prizes and certificates of Excellence were also distributed to the three medical students with the best presentation during the academic year 2007-2008. The winners were: Iyad ElDahouk, Shant Ayanian, and Camille Adeimy. At last Dr. Tarek Khalife received for the second year the prize of the “Best Resident in Teaching.

  • Best Presentation by Medical Student:
    For the fourth consecutive year, three medical students (Class 2008) were recognized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for their outstanding presentations.

    • Yara El-Jalbout: Pricking the Pain Away
    • Charbel Khoury: Parturition: It's Not Just About Pushing
    • Karim Saab: Multiple Sclerosis and Pregnancy

    On August 1, the three students were awarded Certificates of Excellence for the Best Presentation by a Medical Student.  In addition, each student received a prize. Congratulations for the winners!
