The Physical Therapy Department at AUBMC receives physical
therapy students from Lebanon and abroad in order to conduct
their practical training on inpatients and outpatients during their
third and fourth years of study.
The purpose of the students’ training is to deepen their
knowledge, skills, and professional conduct necessary to
practice as clinicians in a variety of healthcare and community
settings.
Students encounter patients of different age groups with a
variety of pathologies in the fields of orthopedics,
traumatology, neurology, neurosurgery, and rheumatology. They
also learn the management of oncology patients, specifically in
the areas of limb salvage surgery and bone marrow transplant.
Students are exposed to specific treatment modalities, such as
Kabat and Bobath methods, lymphatic drainage and rehabilitation
of cerebral palsy cases, as well as Back School educational
sessions for the individual and community.
The students are evaluated for their knowledge and skills
related to the assessment of patients, setting objectives and
treatment plan, along with patient education, documentation of
information, communication and discharge planning.
Their training at the Physical Therapy Department enhances their
concept of safety of the patient and self, their sense of
responsibility and professional behaviour. They are exposed to
ethical and legal practice, to the respect and acceptance of
individuals and cultural differences, as well as to resource and
fiscal management.
At the Physical Therapy Department, students learn to
incorporate multiple sources of information to make decisions
about readiness to practice. Students learn to integrate theory,
evidence and practice to become evidence-based practitioners in
the present and future healthcare environment.
In order to join our department, international students must
apply for their rotation through their academic institution. The
correspondence must specify clear objectives of the rotation.
All the academic and medical requirements will be issued to the
correspondent at the time of application.
