Director's Message

Claude Maroun, PT, MPHThe Physical Therapy Department at AUBMC has a commitment to the society to promote optimal health and function in individuals by pursuing excellence in practice. Excellence is based on continuing quality improvement implemented according to the following strategies:

  1. implementation of evidence-based practice and clinical practice guidelines in the assessment, treatment, and education of patients and their families
  2. ongoing training of the physical therapists and auxiliary staff through the Continuing Professional Development Program
  3. availability of a state-of-the-art facility and equipment in hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, and functional rehabilitation
  4. introduction of research activities with the collaboration of different departments in the Medical Center
The department works to maintain international standards of practice and high quality of service, which provide a base for the evaluation of physical therapy practice. Physical therapists and patients establish and maintain an ongoing collaborative process of decision-making through the provision of service. Our patients benefit from a comprehensive and complementary treatment involving, in addition to physical therapy, the disciplines of occupational therapy and psychomotor therapy.

Our services have three aims: preventive, therapeutic, and consultative. Moreover, the Physical Therapy Department has an essential role in teaching. We teach and train physical therapy students from local universities and from universities in the Middle East. Students from North America and Australia visit us to perform their "Global Physiotherapy Elective". We also introduce the science of physical therapy to nursing and medical students, and we conduct in-service training to various disciplines in the Medical Center, as well.

In this era of globalization, there is a need for more professionalism within and between disciplines in order to have healthier individuals, communities, and professionals. There is a need for more awareness, efficiency, and effectiveness. The issue is maintaining the momentum. We are ready for the challenge.
