Task Force for
Reconstruction and Community Service
Call for Proposals
Projects on Reconstruction and Community Service
Proposals submitted prior to any of the following dates will be
reviewed soon after:
January 15th,
March 5th, April 11th, & May 7th,
2007
Faculty and/or
students are invited to submit project proposals for possible
funding through the AUB Task Force on Reconstruction and Community
Service (TFRCS).
TFRCS is an ad-hoc
committee formed by President Waterbury in the Summer of 2006 in
response to the July 2006 war in Lebanon. The initial mission of the
Task Force was to review the university’s efforts to relieve the
human suffering caused by the war, and to investigate other
opportunities for the AUB community to contribute to the pressing
problems of relief and reconstruction. The mission soon broadened to
supporting community service, a more general strategic goal of the
university, and integrating service into the university’s main
academic work.
AUB has received
donations for relief, reconstruction and community development, and
these are now available to support relevant projects proposed by AUB
faculty and students. The Task Force will attempt to match
successful proposals with potential donors based on project focus
and donor interest.
AUB faculty
and/or students are invited to submit project proposals.
Projects with budgets ranging from $1,000 to $70,000, and possibly
more, will be considered. No upper limit has been set on project
budgets.
Priority in the
first “Call for Proposals” will be given to those proposals that
address relief, early recovery, and reconstruction, and are ready to
begin in early 2007. To be recommended by the Task Force,
proposals must apply knowledge and/or skills to solving an
immediate and compelling problem faced by people in urban and/or in
rural areas.
In addition, the
Task Force will value proposals that:
- target
disadvantaged people
- improve
livelihoods
- are
community-oriented or community-based
- are
interdisciplinary
- promote
sustainable development
- translate
findings or experience into policy
