Al-Eisawi, D. M. 1998. Checklist of the plants of Jordan.
This list is based on pages 341-362 in: Jordan Country Study on Biological Diversity. 1998. Amman, Jordan: The General Corporation for the Environment Protection. I have posted a copy of the checklist on my web site. This is simply a checklist.

Bouloumoy, L. 1930. Flore du Liban et de la Syrie.
Paris. I have not examined this work.

Davis, P. H., editor. 1965-1989. Flora of Turkey and the East Aegean Islands.
Edinburgh. Outstanding! This is the reference I use most regularly for Lebanese plants. The keys are clear and easy to use.

Houri, A. and N. M. Houri. 2001. Photographic Guide to Wild Flowers of Lebanon.
About 240 wildflowers are illustrated. Remarkably, no information on where the book is published is included.

Meikle, R. D. 1977. Flora of Cyprus.
Volume One. 1985. Volume Two. Kew: Royal Botanic Gardens and 1985. Cyprus is so close to Lebanon that much of the flora will be the same. However, the high mountains of Lebanon possess a flora that will not be typical of Cyprus.

Mouterde, P. 1966-1970. Nouvelle Flore du Liban et de la Syrie.
2 volumes. Beirut. In French, this work covers both Syria and Lebanon but is not as thorough as Post. Out of print.

Nehme, M. 1980. Fleurs Sauvages du Liban.
Second edition. Beirut: National Council for Scientific Research. In French, an Arabic edition is also available. This is a selection of about 200 species intended for use by people interested in wild flowers.

Post, G. E. 1883-1896 (reprinted at least once). Flora of Syria, Palestine and Sinai.
A handbook of the flowering plants and ferns, native and naturalized from the Taurus to Ras Muhammad and from the Mediterranean Sea to the Syrian Desert. Edition 2 edited by John Edward Dinsmore (1932-1933). Beirut: American Press.

Tohme, G. and H. Tohme. 2002. A Thousand and One Flowers of Lebanon.
Beirut: Lebanese University. This will be the most useful volume for identifying wildflowers in Lebanon.

Zohary, M. and N. Feinbrun-Dothan. 1966-1986. Flora Palaestina.
Jerusalem. Outstanding! Each species is illustrated including many species that occur in Lebanon. Lebanon is a mountainous country with little that can properly be called desert while the this flora covers areas of extensive desert and only a little of a mountainous region (Mount Hermon).
