For the first time in the history of the Science Fair, math
and technology were added to the topics of the projects handed
in. Bigger space in the AUB indoor basketball court allowed
for more projects to be accepted. Two hundred and eighty projects
from 24 different schools made up this yearŐs fair. The Education
Student Society and the Science and Math Education Center
collaborated together to organize this annual event. All schools
around Lebanon were invited to submit projects, which were
chosen on a first come first served basis until the space
available was filled up. The three day fair was judged first
by AUB professors and then again by student graduates or education
student practitioners. After the judging finished at noon
on Saturday April 28, the fair was open for anyone interested
to come and have a look at the projects. Some schools even
brought their students to look at the projects. Students from
the first through 12th grades came from all around Lebanon
and started setting up their projects before the opening ceremony
in the afternoon. The ESS president, Jessica Behna first addressed
the gathering, followed the ESS advisor by SMEC Director Marge
Henningson, Dr. Hussein Yaghi, and, finally FAS Dean Khalil
Bitar. After the judges had their chance of going around all
the projects the winners were announced on Sunday April 29.
