Excessive fouling leads team to lose

By Elias Abou Samra ---

Nearly the whole AUB delegation attended the menŐs basketball game in the Rhodes Sports Center. The game started late after all the games had finished except for menŐs volleyball. As the game started, the menŐs basketball team had problems in adapting to the new atmosphere at the Rhodes basketball courts. Yamen Rajeh, Rayan Aoun, and Naji Salloum committed three fouls each during the first two quarters of the game, putting their team in a foul-vulnerable situation. The second quarter ended with an advantage of 15 points, leaving the score 37 to 22 in favor of the Greek team. Despite the attempts of AUBŐs Coach JoJo Saadeh to encourage the team in the third quarter, the gap persisted and the game ended with a 72-56 loss for the AUB team. The menŐs basketball team showed a better adaptation to the Greek basketball style during its second game in Rhodes against the same team. According to AUBŐs Naji Salloum, ŇThe problem is that we are better suited to the zone tactics, whereas the Greek team is following a man-to-man plan.Ó The best scorers in the AUB team were Bassel Moukaddam, who scored 22 points, and Nadim Khlat with 23 points. The AUBites showed a better performance in the second half of the game, winning both the third and fourth quarters. On the other hand, the recovering team couldnŐt make up the huge loss of the first two quarters, and fell to a final score of 90-79.
