AUB is filled with many activities students can participate in
ranging from sports activities to clubs and student societies. The
most important activity, if we can use that term to describe it, is a student's
education. But education in the classroom is not everything as many
teachers keep saying. Activities are a major component of any university,
school or any other academic environment. Without these activities
students will only learn theory and not practice.
You see some studentS who take part in many activities,
whereas at the other extreme you can also see many students who only have
studying and no other activity on their mind. There should be some
grey area in between, which is the best measure to apply both theory and
practice without one ruining or conquering the other.
Too many activities lead to no mastering of any skills
because there is no focus, therefore damaging the learning of that particular
activity. If you keep doing bits and pieces of everything then you
won't have one activity you are perfectly good at.
Take the example of education. If you do not focus your learning
on one major, and take the required major courses to be knowledgeable in
that major then you will not be educated enough to earn your degree.
But as this example also shows, you have electives or hobbies that you
can pursue, but will not become qualified in, that will not dramatically
affect your skills in that major but add to it.
Perfect your skill in one activity, is my advice to you,
because after all, quality is much more sought after than quantity.
