Occupation sparks massive protests

In reaction to recent Israeli military escalations on Palestinian-controlled areas, the Palestinian Cultural Club, backed by the University Student Faculty Committee, the Student Representative Committees, different political parties, and hundreds of AUB students, staged a solidarity week in support of the Palestinian people and the Intifada. Tuesday witnessed an open demonstration reminiscent of the seventies, which commenced in AUB, then wended its way in a protest march to MartyrsÕ Square despite the rain. I have never seen such punctuality or perseverance before in AUB. Usually things take forever to occur, but I guess when the situation demands organized thoughts and actions then you will have organization. more

Palestinians under the spotlight
Eighteen months of bitter Israeli-Palestinian confrontations since the eruption of the second Intifada in September 2000 have, over the last week, culminated in the most brutal Israeli military escalation yet, hurling enraged protesters onto the streets in masses. Students have manifested at AUB by the thousands, joining the Arab and international community, including Italy, Japan, Belgium, and France, in marches expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and the Intifada. more
