PCC commemorates Intifada

The Palestinian Cultural Club at AUB has opened its doors for recruitment placing a stand near Ada Dodge Hall to welcome students, Palestinian and non Palestinian alike, to a new academic year acquainting them with the club and its cause. Through its many activities the PCC aims to better inform people of PalestineŐs history and struggle, promoting the countryŐs heritage and culture. It strives to acquaint Palestinian AUBites with each other and with the student body at large. It also raises donations for the Palestinians living in Palestine and the refugees in diaspora. Having been one of the active clubs on campus, the club commenced its various activities last year by leading the coalition of AUBŐs political groups on a marching demonstration towards ESCWA in solidarity with the Intifada. The club continued its own march in support of the Intifada, organizing various activities throughout the year. These included ElderŐs Day in which Palestinians, exiled from their land as a result of the Nakba in 1948, shared their lives in Palestine with students, and ChildŐs Day, which hosted Palestinian children from the Burj al- Barajneh, Shatila and Mar Elias refugee camps for a day of entertainment at AUB. Other club activities included football tournaments such as The Palestinian Cup II, art exhibitions such as George AleefŐs watercolor painting exhibition in collaboration with the Art Club and picture exhibitions such as the picture exhibition of JerusalemŐs old souks and alleys commemorating the Nakba. PCC also held an Intifada support campaign, in which members collected donations and held a charity concert by Charbel Rouhana. Through three donation campaigns last year, the PCC managed to raise 5000$ that went to the hospitals of Jerusalem in the Occupied territories. The beginning of the current academic year at AUB marks for the PCC the first anniversary of the Intifada in Palestine. ŇItŐs a new academic year here at AUB and yet another year for the Intifada,Ó said Tarek Musa, the clubŐs president for the second consecutive year. The Intifada is an issue that the PCC insists should surpass Palestinian concern only, encompassing the Arab world at large. ŇAnyone on earth, who has a free mind that refuses to live in a planet where injustice rules, should consider this fight theirs,Ó read the flyer the PCC distributed.
