Medicine students protest administrationÕs lack of concern

Medical students met with faculty Dean Nadim Cortas, to discuss the administration's new decision to lower the number of AUB student internships at the University Hospital. In a heated confrontation with the dean two weeks ago, students voiced their concerns about not getting the chance to compete either in Lebanon or outside after the great academic and financial efforts they would have borne during their four undergraduate years. They criticized the University for not informing them ahead of time of its new policies, and proposed, if not the cancellation of the new internship policy, other solutions. They proposed postponing the application of the new policy, increasing the number of rotating internships, and implementing the post-doctoral fellowship, a research option. The new internship policy, meant to meet the requirements of the accreditation process AUB is going through, lowers the number of internships to 65, while more than 75 students used to be accepted. The policy also lowers the number of AUB students to be accepted. more
