Pediatric Otolaryngology

Welcome to the pediatric otolaryngology services in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). Here, we treat patients (children and adolescents) with diseases and disorders of the head and neck, especially those related to the ear, nose, and throat.

Several factors underlie the need for such a subspecialty, including the unique differences between children and adults in the areas of oncology, otology, infectious diseases, upper aerodigestive tract disorders, voice, speech, and language pathologies. In addition, the development of a defined body of knowledge in many areas of pediatrics has stimulated the development of pediatric otolaryngology.

The Pediatric Otolaryngology Section at AUBMC was launched in 2002 by Dr. Nabil Fuleihan, Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at AUBMC. AUBMC prides itself on being the pioneer in initiating and introducing the subspecialty nationally and in the region.

Patients are treated by a fellowship-trained and experienced, pediatric otolaryngologist who has specialized further training and credentials focusing solely on ear, nose, and throat problems in children and adolescents.
