Otology/Neuro-Otology

Welcome to the otology/neuro-otology services in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). Our aim is to provide the best care possible for our patients in treating and managing diseases of the ear and skull base. Our highly-trained surgeons perform a variety of procedures to treat deafness and other related ear conditions, balance disorders resulting from peripheral vestibular pathology, skull base, and facial nerve disorders.

We treat patients suffering from:

    • cochlear implants
    • self-implantable hearing devices
    • sudden hearing loss
    • other types of hearing loss

  • Chronic Ear Disease
    • otitis media and ear tubes (for children and adults)
    • cholesteatomas, chronic ear infections, and mastoidectomy (tympanomastoidectomy)

The Cochlear Implantation Program at AUBMC is dedicated to providing the surgical option of cochlear implantation and follow-up rehabilitation to patients with severe-to-profound hearing loss who can gain little or no benefit from traditional hearing aids. Our program is distinguished by its comprehensive, pre-and post-operative phases where a fully-committed team of clinical specialists work together to assure that users benefit most from their new implant. The rehabilitation strategy at AUBMC consists of the following:
  • educational advice and support
  • speech and language therapy
  • regular medical check ups
  • implant mapping and adjustment
  • patient and family counselling
Because we realize that one of the most important factors for successful treatment is the relationship between the patient and the surgeon, an initial consultation will provide us with the opportunity to discuss your health problems and to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

If you would like to learn more about how we can help or discuss treatment options, kindly contact us to schedule a private consultation where we will be pleased to answer any questions you may have.
