Mission
Statement
The mission of
the division of orthopaedic surgery at AUBMC has been to pursue
excellence in patient care, education and research. It aims to
attain regional and international reputation as a leader in
orthopaedics surgery.
AUBMC has one of
the oldest orthopaedic programs in the Middle East that was
started in 1952 with the return of AUBMC Emeritus Professor Afif
Nsouli from the United States. Since then, it has continuously
served the needs of the local and regional patients with
musculoskeletal problems to improve their quality of life by
introducing new techniques in orthopaedic surgery.
Today, the
division provides state-of-the-art services in orthopaedic
trauma, joint reconstruction being joint replacement or
osteotomies, pediatric orthopaedics including scoliosis surgery,
spine surgery, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, hand
surgery, foot and ankle surgery along with limb reconstructive
surgery for the correction of traumatic and congenital
deformities using Ilizarov technique . In addition, it fosters a
pioneering limb salvage program for musculoskeletal tumor in
pediatric and adult population.
To achieve its
mission, the orthopaedic division is committed to:
- Deliver
comprehensive, cost-effective unsurpassed medical care,
pioneering methodologies and procedures, in addition to
specialized surgical expertise to ensure the best outcome for
every patient along with promoting patient education.
- Offer
inspiring educational programs to medical students and residents
through teaching orthopedic knowledge, refining skills, and
encouraging the utilization of the resources and decision-making
methods. It aims to emphasize the importance of life-time
learning in the ever developing field of orthopaedics.
- Support
and promote innovative research in the field of musculoskeletal
sciences and its clinical aspects by encouraging creative
thinking and intramural and extramural collaborations.
