History
The radiation oncology practice at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) has over 60 years of history. It is now treating over 600 patients per year. The department participates regularly in all the local and regional conferences and has been active in publishing several retrospective and prospective pilot studies.
The department and the AUBMC have a commitment to make available to the residents of Lebanon and the neighboring countries the latest technology for cancer treatment. Today, the Department of Radiation Oncology is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment:
- Two modern Linear Accelerators with multileaf collimators and image guidance systems
- CT-Simulator
- Radiation Oncology Information Management System
- Several Treatment Planning Computers providing 2D, 3D conformal, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
- Active program in Stereotactic Brain Radiosurgery (SRS) and Radiotherapy (SRT)
- Active program in High Dose Rate Brachytherapy procedures
