- Congratulations to Mrs. Christiane Soubhie, the Unit Coordinator of
the Women's Health Center, the winner of the "Nurse Recognition Award
for OBS/GYN RNs"
- Dr. Anwar Nassar announced the establishment of the Divisions of
Maternal Fetal Medicine (Head: Ihab Usta, MD) and Reproductive
Endocrinology and Infertility (Head: Johnny Awwad). The Head of the
Division will report directly to the Chairperson and will be responsible
for the academic program, clinical service, administration, growth and
development of the Division.
- A Departmental Christmas Dinner was held on Dec. 14, 2011 at
the Bristol Hotel. More details in the OBS Newsletter winter edition.

- Dr. Anwar Nassar was appointed as
Interim Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology effective

- On October 7, Dr. Adnan Mroueh, Chairman, Department of Obstetrics
and Gynecology and Dr. Anwar Nassar, the coordinator of the Med III OBS/GYN
clerkship, distributed certificates of Excellence and prizes for the
three medical students with the best presentation during the academic
year 2008-2009. The winners were: Jad Bou Monsef, Laurice Bou Nemr and
Akl Fahd. Congratulations!
- Dr. Anwar Nassar, the coordinator of the Med III Obstetrics and
Gynecology Clerkship, has received the Teaching Excellence Award for the
academic year 2008-2009 in a ceremony held at Ada Dodge Hall and
attended by the President of the University, Dr. Peter Dorman, the
acting Provost, Dr. Waddah Nasr, the Dean of the Medical School, Dr.
Nadim Cortas, and students, residents, colleagues and Family. The
president said of Nassar," Anwar Nassar combines many talents: excellent
physician, valued colleague, and gifted teacher. Extremely popular among
medical students, Anwar engages them with enigmatic lectures which
provoke analytical thinking and inspire excellence." Dorman also praised
Nassar for constantly remaining updated on scientific developments in
order to educate his students on the latest advancements in their
field of study. He added, "Faculty members in Medicine must perform a
balancing act including substantial clinical work, which Dr. Nassar also
excels at, having previously been awarded resident of the year." He then
presented him with his award.

- Congratulations to Dr. Anwar Nassar who was recently elected as a
member of the ALPHA OMEGA ALPHA (AΩA) honor medical society.

- The Fourth Resident Research
Day took place on Thursday, July 24, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
at Holiday Inn, Dunes, Beirut – Lebanon. This annual event gives OB/GYN
residents a chance to showcase research work to an audience of faculty
and peers. A cocktail dinner followed.
Topics presented were varied and many rotated around a common theme of
performance indicators like the cesarean delivery rate, amniocentesis
complication rate and progesterone use for the prevention of preterm
delivery. Most of research projects presented in previous years have
generated publications and presentations at international meetings.

Prizes and
certificates of Excellence were also distributed to the three medical
students with the best presentation during the academic year 2007-2008.
The winners were: Iyad ElDahouk, Shant Ayanian, and Camille Adeimy. At
last Dr. Tarek Khalife received for the second year the prize of the
“Best Resident in Teaching.”

For the fourth consecutive year, three medical
students (Class 2008) were recognized by the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynecology for their outstanding presentations.

On August 1, the three students were awarded
Certificates of Excellence for the “Best Presentation by a Medical
