Fall 2007 Vol. VI, No. 1

From the Editors

Dear Alumni and Friends,
This issue follows up on an important event that took place at AUB in October 2007—the dedication of the Dar Al-Handasah (Shair and Partners) Architecture Building and the Kamal Shair Central Research Science Laboratory (CRSL). AUB architecture graduates around the world are reexamining the ground we walk on, the art we love, and how we live. We’re introducing you to a few of these architects in this issue, and showing off what is happening in architecture on campus as well (don’t miss Zaha Hadid’s design for the new Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs).

Architecture students “put in long hours, they need space so they can spread out their work, and they often make a big mess,” Professor Leila Musfy, chair of the Architecture and Design Department told MainGate. Thanks to Kamal Shair, architecture students will soon be able to work in a space that has been especially designed to encourage and support the study of architecture.
