A Message from the Chairperson of the AssemblyThe XXXVIIIth Middle East Medical Assembly represents an additional landmark in the long tradition of this annual scientific and educational forum. It serves well the mission of the Faculty of Medicine in promoting scientific and medical exchange and collaboration. As in each assembly, a distinguished group of accomplished and renowned scientists and professionals will join our faculty in offering a very rich and informative program. Over the past few years, MEMA has been quite fortunate to earn the partnership of a world leader in the delivery of healthcare, the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation. The scientific program for the XXXVIIIth MEMA offers the annual classics: Updates in Molecular Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Primary Care. These updates will highlight the recent advances in these disciplines and they will be complemented by a comprehensive review of recent, state-of- the-art diagnostic modalities in some of these specialties. The modern discoveries in biotechnology have armed the physician with highly sophisticated tools and their proper utilization is of paramount significance particularly in our region where development must be gauged against the financial abilities of the communities we serve. In addition, the Dermatology and Plastic Surgery sessions will address the artistic principles of facial aging as well as the fundamental and essential aging changes of the head and neck. This will allow the participants to analyze the different problems and offer comprehensive solutions to their patients. The sessions in Obstetrics and Gynecology will cover a wide spectrum of timely topics of primary importance to women's health; they range from reproductive endocrinology, infertility and assisted reproductive technology, maternal fetal medicine to gynecologic oncology. Many of these specialty sessions will include well designed workshops with unique opportunity to meet noted experts in their respective fields and handson experience. On behalf of an exceptionally dedicated team of staff, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to share with us this unique experience a blend of science, culture and above all, camaraderie. Come join us in Lebanon and experience for yourself the unique beauty of this country, its historical heritage, the kind hospitality of its people, their cultural riches, and culinary skills. We look forward to welcoming you in Beirut. Ghazi Zaatari, MD, FCAP Professor of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Chairperson, XXXVIIIth Middle East Medical Assembly |
