The XXXVth Middle East Medical Assembly is held at an exciting stage in human history medical achievements, and ushering advances in medical sciences and technology that could be bewildering indeed.

We are honored and privileged to announce the 1st MEMA of the Millennium. After 50 years, the Medical Assembly has developed into the foremost forum of excellence in regional medical education and scientific exchange.Throughout 3 days the program covers multidisciplinary advances in the field of molecular biology and genetic basis of diseases as well as modern clinical methods of diagnosis and treatment of common clinical disorders. The curriculum features special emphasis on the extraordinary expansion of pharmacology and intervention in cardiovascular medicine, and explores current and futuristic cutting edge technology in Cardiac Surgery. Controversies as well as state of the art principles of management of Breast Cancer are highlighted. Special attention is given to the changing concepts of treatment of liver diseases, common Gastrointestinal disorders, Otolaryngology and sleep disorders.

Moreover the realization of globalization of medical thought, guidelines, needs and treatment is an important regional challenge and comprise a basic theme of MEMA this year. The plight of developing countries in securing sustainable access to optimal medical care and proper utilization of modern technology will be addressed by a team of world experts under the auspices of World Health Organization. We aspire that such platforms will effect policy action that will help diminish the existing disparity of standards of care within and among nations. Finally a rich exhibit displays the latest in biotechnology and therapeutics.

An outstanding faculty of internationally renowned basic and clinical scientists and surgeons whose original ideas and work gave impetus to the massive forward progress in medicine have been assembled. Co-sponsorship by leading academic and health organizations have undoubtedly enriched the program and furthered its educational credence by granting formal CME accreditation.
We welcome you to the 35th MEMA May 4-7, 2000, on the sensational University Campus in Beirut, the center of education and culture in the Middle East. We invite you to enjoy the majestic archeologic sites of Lebanon which stand monuments of ancient civilizations this country has
