Mogenson (piano), Bjarne Hansen (violin) and Svend Winslov (cello)
formed their group in 1993 and are currently Denmark's leading piano
trio. They are joined by Anette Slaatto (viola).

A CAMS Mini-Course

Mini-Course Information: The purpose of this mini-course is to
introduce C*- and von Neumann algebras, with physical applications in quantum statistical mechanics.
No background in operator algebras will be assumed. The presentation should be accessible to advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and physics.
Preliminary outline of the course: 1st week: Basics of Hilbert space and operator theory, introduction to C*- and von Neumann algebras.
2nd week: Algebraic formulation of quantum statistical mechanics, thermal equilibrium and KMS states, Tomita-Takesaki theory.
3rd week: Ideal quantum gases, CCR and CAR algebras and representations.
4th week: Some applications to open quantum systems: return to equilibrium, non-equilibrium steady states.
