Smoke-Free Areas
As of January 1, 2008 the Charles Hostler Student Center, the Green Field, Van Dyck courtyard, Saab Medical Library Plaza, Building 56 garden, College Hall breeze way, and Jafet Plaza are smoke free areas.

Details:
In recognition of the severe health risks associated with smoking and secondary smoke, and in the interests of promoting a healthy and smoke-free environment, all university buildings except for private residences were declared smoke free, effective October 16, 2000.

The AUB smoking policy which is published on the AUB web pages http://pnp.aub.edu.lb/general/smoking goes on to say that to prevent contamination of smoke free areas by secondhand smoke, smoking is prohibited in the vicinity of windows and doorways of university buildings.

In addition the following outdoor public spaces are designated "smoke-free" effective January 1, 2008:
a. Charles Hostler Center: all outdoor areas     bounded by and/or in the immediate     vicinity of the Athletic Center and     Auditorium.
b. Green Field: the entire area of the Green     Field including the bleachers.
c. Van Dyck Building courtyard.
d. Saab Medical Library Plaza
e. Building 56: garden.
f. College Hall breeze way and Jafet Plaza

The University intends to gradually expand "smoke-free" areas on campus, including in student dormitories.

Please help keep our campus clean and healthy by refraining from smoking except in designated areas and by disposing of cigarette butts in appropriate receptacles. We count on you to keep AUB the leader in all disciplines.
