Amrik is how the first Arab immigrants used to call America.
"Amrik - Arab presence in South America" is a photo exhibition that shows emotional images taken by twenty-three South-American photographers in various countries of that region. It is a symbolic mosaic of the encounter of the Arab and the South-American peoples, which contributed to shape the social and cultural identity of the South American countries. The exhibition presents a glimpse of Arab immigration to South America and shows how much the peoples of that region are the reflection of the coexistence of multiple cultures. It shows also how the Arab peoples, especially the Lebanese, are so close to them and have so profoundly influenced the peoples of South America.

The Moore Collection Photo Exhibition
An exhibition of the entire Franklin T. Moore Photographic Collection, dating from 1892 to 1902, will open in West Hall on Monday, December 4, 2006 at 6:00 pm and will be marking AUB's 140th year.

The exhibition will run from December 5 to December 15, 2006. Opening hours will be: Monday through Friday, 10:00 am t0 7:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Dr. Moore began photographing the campus in 1892, as it was in those years. He showed the upper campus buildings in various stages of completion: Dodge Hall before the addition of its extension, the Lee Observatory in its lonely seaside location, the Assembly Hall before Post Hall was built (1897). His camera captured the vast size of the new campus, the undeveloped northeastern mountains, the unpaved Bliss Street, the illustrated history of growth that intrigues and attracts for its beauty and because of the changes which have taken place over the last one hundred years.

The first AUB Folk Dance Festival was held on May 1, 1951 with fourteen groups and 250 dancers.
The festival did not take place in the troubled years of 1958 and 1962.
The Twelfth festival was held on Wednesday April 29, 1964. Sixteen groups participated and presented eight general dances of various countries and seven exhibition dances. The festival did not take place during 1973 and 1974 after all preparations had been completed. The long Lebanese war started in April 1975 forcing a suspension of two decades.
