Seminar by Ms. Carola Becker from the Senckenberg Research Institute (Germany): "Secret love life of a Pea Crab". This is the second talk in the 2006/07 Natural Sciences seminar series organized by the Department of Biology and will introduce a family of crabs that live inside mussels, focusing on their reproductive morphology and the relationships with their hosts.

Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers are needed to participate in a research study about food preferences for a period of four weeks. Volunteers will be compensated for their precious time.

Tasks to Be Performed

Volunteers will be asked to taste different foods and beverages and then rate their acceptability. Volunteers will be also asked to submit their first names and family names.

Location

The study will take place in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at AUB (Lower Campus, Agriculture Building, Wing B, First Floor, Organoleptic Lab, Room 420).

Farida and Iraqi Maqam Ensemble (Voice of Mesopotamia) will give two different concerts of traditional Iraqi heritage music on Thursday and Friday, November 16
and 17, 2006, at 8:00 pm at Assembly Hall.

The Iraqi Maqam Ensemble was founded in 1989 in Baghdad by Mohammad H. Gomar as a continuation of the Iraqi Musical Heritage Group which was started in 1973 by the prominent flute professor Munir Bashir.

The ensemble members have all graduated from the Musical Institute and Academy of Fine Arts in Iraq.

Contents
The AUB Planner includes the AUB mission statement, words of the Alma Mater, the University Calendar, essential University telephone numbers, monthly planners for 2006 and 2007, an address section, semester schedule, world time, Hedger calendar, addresses of alumni branches around the world and a small building-coded map of the University.

Specifications
The AUB Planner is 8.5 x 16.5 cm in size. It comes in six different cover designs: creative, or plain leatherette in black, blue, green, Havana or tan embossed with the AUB logo.

The Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages announces the institution of a limited number of full scholarships, tenable at the Department, for holders of a B.A. (or equivalent) who wish to pursue a graduate program leading to the degree of MASTER (M.A.) in ARABIC LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE.

Did You Know!
The AUH Coffee Shop and the Bargain Box were started in 1952 by the Women's Auxiliary.
The Coffee Shop began with a cupboard and a small primus stove for a kitchen. It was located in the first floor of the surgery building of the original hospital, then moved to the new AUB Medical Center in the early 1970s.
The Bargain Box's present location, behind the old Alumni Club, is its third site since it was started.
