Do you have old Photographs?
Are they stored away somewhere collecting dust? Donate them to the Arab Image Foundation (AIF)

The photographs you donate to the Arab Image Foundation will remain in your name and we will provide prints in place of the images you loan us. We will make sure your collection is preserved for the future generations and will make it accessible through our on-line database and other activities we initiate.

The Arab Image Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in 1997 in Beirut by a group of leading photographers and filmmakers. AIF’s mission is to preserve and promote the photographic heritage of the Middle East and Arab world. Its objective is to locate, collect, preserve, interpret, exhibit, publish and disseminate the Arab photographic treasures by making its collection accessible and generating a series of activities.

To date AIF’s collection has grown to include 150,000 photographs from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Iran, Senegal, Argentina and Mexico covering  a period of over 100 years of photography from 1860 through 1980. The collection is unique in its kind, being exclusively composed of photographs produced by resident photographers of the region.  It represents the sole effort to document the modernizing of the Arab world and the photographic practices in the region.  AIF is committed to the collection and preservation of this heritage that is at serious risk of disappearing.

AIF makes its collection available to the public through diverse channels including publications, films, exhibitions and a free access online database. The database is an important reference and tool for researchers, scholars, artists, journalists and the general public.

Call for Nominations for the AUB Award for Excellence in Teaching

I am very pleased to announce the call for nominations for the AUB Award for Excellence in Teaching.  This award is to recognize individual members of the faculty who are gifted teachers and who have guided students into avenues of critical thinking and creativity in their academic fields. It represents a tangible appreciation for excellence in teaching, and recognition that good teaching is central to the mission of AUB.

Current, full-time faculty members who have taught at AUB for the last six semesters will be eligible for the award.   Nominations may be submitted by students, faculty members, deans, department chairs, and alumni, and should be sent with a formal letter to the Office of the Provost by March 31st, 2006. A complete nomination file should then be submitted, to include a clear statement from the nominee accepting the nomination, a curriculum vitae, a teaching portfolio a list of courses taught at AUB, a count of student advisees, a list of research projects/theses supervised, teaching evaluations, teaching materials, and letters from colleagues. The Office of the Provost will request support letters from the department Chair and Dean. The complete nomination file is due in the Provost’s Office by April 17, 2006. The award will be announced at the time of the Commencement in June.

Up to two faculty members will receive the AUB Award for Excellence in Teaching each year.  They will be chosen by a judging panel that includes the Provost and Associate Provost, as ex-officio non-voting members, nine faculty members, an alumni representative and a student member. Winners of the award will be honored in a ceremony open to all.
For complete information about the award, including the criteria and schedule for nomination, nominee’s checklist, nominee’s self-scoring sheet detailing involvement in instruction, mentoring, services and professional development and innovation (Evaluation Form), and the nomination form, please consult the following website address:
