Samar Mikati Kaissi Founders' Day Ceremony
Monday, December 5, 2005, 12:00 noon, Assembly Hall We encourage all undergraduate students, regardless of class year, faculty, or major, to consider entering this contest. We will celebrate Founders' Day on December 5, 2005 at noon, in Assembly Hall. This year's theme: AUB AND DEMOCRACY This is not an easy nor obvious question as AUB, as an institution, must remain neutral in the political life of Lebanon and of the region. You should think of this question in terms of AUB's academic mission, its rules and procedures of governance, and the ways in which the university impacts upon society both directly and indirectly. Participants in the contest should write an essay of about 1,000 words answering the fundamental question. Essays may be jointly prepared by two or more students. A special selection committee appointed by the AUB president will read and evaluate the submitted essays. The winner will receive a prize of $500 and will be asked to read her or his essay during the Founders' Day Ceremony, on December 5, 2005. The name of the winner will be inscribed on a plaque in the entrance to Assembly Hall. Students should submit typed essay entries, preferably on diskette, at the Dean of Student Affairs office no later than Thursday, November 17, 2005. Please make sure to obtain a receipt for your submission. For further information contact: ifkhoury@aub.edu.lb Off Campus
