Current Research Projects

Completed

A two-ear research project (co-managed with Ibrahim Elbadawi) housed at the IFE and supported by and IDRC research grant has been completed, and an edited book manuscript entitled: Explaining he Democracy Deficit in the Arab World: Oil, Conflict and Beyond has also been completed.  19 established researchers from the Arab World and abroad have participated in this project.  Its primary objective was to identify the factors underlying the persistence of Arab autocratic regimes despite notable economic growth since independence.

 - Conditions governing the transition from autocracy to democracy in the Arab World.                                     - The impact of consociationalism on development: the Case of Lebanon                                                        - The effects of the recent global financial crises on the economic growth of the Arab Countries.
