CHD Awareness Month February – March 2008
February 2008, with the support of the Ministry of Public Health, the BHF launched its 3rd CHD Awareness Campaign bringing attention to the fact that 1 in 100 babies are born with Congenital Heart Disease.
The Campaign targeted adults as well as children in our community with a vast media campaign as well as an original school outreach program.
‘Health Challenge’ activity booklets, prepared with the guidance of public health professionals at AUB Medical Center, were distributed to 2500 students grades 6,7 and 8 in 12 schools. The booklets contain fun puzzles and trivia questions about human biology and general health. Students were requested to take the booklet home and encouraged to collect donations from their friends and families for completing the challenge. The funds collected were given as a donation in the name of the school, to benefit needy children with heart disease. This project has engaged children and encouraged discussion with parents and teachers about heart disease and instilled a sense of responsibility towards the needy.
