First Beirut International Marathon           October 19, 2003

One Man’s Heart Lead the Way!
The very first Beirut International Marathon held on October 19th, 2003 inspired one runner touched by a son’s heart problem to raise funds for needy children with heart disease. His solo effort lead him to raise $30,000 and donate it all to the Children’s Heart Center at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC). Along the course, a runner friend joined in and boosted the funds raised by pitching in half of her earnings for charities.

Thanks to one woman’s vision, the Beirut International Marathon under Mrs May El Khalil’s leadership paved the way for many charities, giving them the opportunity to fundraise through a high profile sporting event.

With this initial drive, the Brave Heart Fund was established by two volunteers touched by Congenital Heart Disease, together with the pediatric cardiologist at the Children’s Heart Center at AUBMC.
