The inter-disciplinary obesity treatment program was established in 2006. The program offers comprehensive multi-disciplinary evaluation and treatment of morbid obesity. This includes surgical treatment options including both laparoscopic and open Roux-y- gastric bypass (RYGB), adjustable gastric banding (AGB), sleeve gastrectomy (SG), biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) and duodenal switch (DS). Patients are thoroughly evaluated by a team of healthcare professionals specializing in the care of the obese patients. Our surgeons are experts in the field of laparoscopic bariatric surgery and are invited regularly as guest speakers and proctors in workshops throughout the region. The Department of Surgery hosts periodic workshops in laparoscopic RYGB and AGB with “live demonstration” of surgical cases and “hands-on” training in the animal facility. This year (2006) we have helped train more than 50 surgeons from Lebanon and the neighboring countries.
