511, Ext 3474). GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS (1ST
DRAFT) GENERAL " This booklet contains the guidelines
and regulations for the Contest. " The guidelines and regulations are
still in a preliminary form. Modifications, as well updates and additional information,
will be available in the CEE Dept and communicated to participating teams by e-mail. "
A Registration Form is also included with this booklet. " Sponsorship
Forms are provided in the CEE Dept. " Inquiries and suggestions can be
sent to the e-mail address below. If you have any questions on the guidelines
and regulations, or if you have any doubts on whether your structural model/components
satisfy the requirements, check with Mounir Mabsout (Office 511, Ext 3474 mounir@aub.edu.lb). Theme:
Building a structure/model symbolizing the 50th Anniversary of FEA (The 50th),
with complete freedom in choosing the material of which it is made. The contest
is part of the activities which will be exhibited during "The 1st FEA Student
Conference".
Purpose and Requirements: The model will be judged
for its structural soundness and stability, creativity/complexity/originality,
and level of entertainment. A poster describing the project is also required. Participants:
Contest is open to all CEE undergraduate students, in groups of three to five
contestants. Groups can be formed from various classes (1st year to 4th year).
The names of the participants (including the class) in a group and a label for
the group should be submitted to the CEE Dept as soon as possible. Associates
from the various Depts of FEA (ME, ECE, Arch, GD, EM) can be consulted as needed
and should be acknowledged. Registration Form included with this booklet. Description:
o Structure should symbolize the 50th Anniversary of FEA. o Structure
should fit in a (fictitious) parallelepiped of size 2x1 m base and 1.5 m height.
o Structure should stand on its own. A base can be provided. o Special features
and effects are strongly encouraged to provide some level of entertainment (Mechanical,
Electrical, Visual, Computer, Game, Historical Background,
). o No limitations
on weight. Consider however transportation practicality. Material: Free:
The model can be made of any material or combination of materials (structural,
decorative, recycled,
). Poster: The model should be outlined
in one poster in which you should give a brief description of the model highlighting
its main features. You can also include descriptive figures or pictures of the
model and its making. Grading: To be announced later. Refer to the
section on purpose and requirements for the time being. Eng'g Labs
and Shops: Support can be provided by the FEA Civil Labs and Shops. Coordinate
with Mr. Hemi El-Khatib (Labs) and Mr. Joseph Nassif (Shops) to make sure that
no classes are scheduled when you need the facilities or the support of the Labs/Shops
personnel. Sponsors: You may seek support from a Sponsor (Company/Firm,
Individual). This can be in the form of material, equipment, or as you/sponsor
see fit. Sponsors label should be displayed on your project, and will be acknowledged
during exhibition/evaluation ceremony. Prizes: Symbolic Prizes (to
be announced later) will be given to the first three winner teams. Special awards
may be given to particular features, and all teams will be awarded certificates
for participation. Contest Date and Location Structures will be exhibited
and evaluated during "The 1st FEA Student Conference" due to take place
