Family medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is the specialty which integrates the biological, clinical, and behavioral sciences. The scope of family medicine encompasses all ages, both sexes and each organ system.

The family physician is qualified to serve the patient as an advocate in all health-related matters, including the appropriate use of consultants, health services, and community resources.

Mission

The mission of the department of Family Medicine at the American University of Beirut of Beirut-Medical Center (AUB-MC) is to promote and achieve excellent community-oriented primary health care at the local, national and regional levels through education, research, and services.

The Department serves as the leader at AUB-MC, in primary care education and research. It provides exemplary, comprehensive and continuous primary health care utilizing the psychosocial model. The Department serves students, residents, fellows, health professionals, AUB community and citizens.
