Annual Women's Auxiliary Toy Tea Party
The Women's Auxiliary of the AUB Medical Center held its annual Toy Tea
Party in the Marquand House garden on June 12, at which time the accomplishments
of the Auxiliary during the year were announced and awards were given
to nine selected nursing students.
In her welcoming address, the president of the association Amal Najjar
praised the hard work and dedication of the volunteers of the Coffee Shop,
the Bargain Box, the Hospital, the Gift Shop, and the Social Committee.
Mrs. Najjar also expressed condolences on the loss of Dr. Salim Firzli,
the husband of Mrs. Nabila Firzli, director of the Coffee Shop and former
president of the Women's Auxiliary, as well as on the loss of Mrs. Nada
Alamuddine Kanso, who served as an active and devoted volunteer for twenty-one
years. The Auxiliary will be establishing in her name a yearly award to
be given to a student nurse.
Mrs. Najjar reported on the contribution of the Auxiliary to the AUB Medical
Center for the current year as totaling 208,150,000 L.L. (the equivalent
of $138,766.), distributed as follows:
72,000,000 L.L. from the Coffee Shop to the Social Service Department.
48,000,000 L.L. from the Bargain Box to the Social Service Department.
60,000,000 L.L. to the Nabila Firzli Emergency Fund.
10,000,000 L.L. medications for needy patients.
15,000,000 L.L. scholarships to two student nurses.
3,150,000 L.L. awards to student nurses and hospital nurses.
Vice President of Medical Affairs and Dean Faculty of Medicine Nadim Cortas,
as well as Director of the School of Nursing Huda Abu-Saad Huijer, conveyed
appreciation and thanks to the members and volunteers of the Women's Auxiliary
for their continued support of the nursing profession.
The best nursing awards were then bestowed on the following nine nurses:
Ghina Shatila (Mary Crawford Florence Nightingale Award); Rachelle Bejjani
(Poppy Haddad Award); Leila Al Alti (Emily Asfour Award); Dina Moucarry
(Hanneh Shahine Award); Serpouhie Toriguian (Anna Smith Award); Sarine
Beurkibeukian (Henriette Sabra Award); Zeina Dehni (Najla Marston Award);
Jihane Bou Sleiman (Alexandra Jureidini Award); Mohamad Saab (Nada Kanso
Award).
The Annette Hajjar scholarship for the coming year will be offered to
two student nurses, Sara Ghalayini and Mahmoud Ghazil.
The meeting ended with a musical performance organized by Mrs. Nadia Alamuddine,
featuring talented singer Marie Christine Zahar, accompanied at the piano
by Mrs. Isabel Isahakian and followed by a buffet served under the trees
of Marquand House.
