President John Waterbury, Provost Peter Heath, and a number of University
officials gathered in College Hall on June 27 to attend the 2008 President's
Service Excellence Award ceremony, in which five AUB employees were recognized
for their outstanding performance and service to the community. The employees
honored were Alhan Shamseddine (Administrative Officer, Epilepsy Program,
Department of Pediatrics), Helmi El Khatib (Manager of Civil and Environmental
Engineering), Joe Max Wakim (Assistant Director, Medical Center's Computer
and Network Services), Kassem Khalil (Office Messenger at the Faculty
of Medicine), and Mona Katul (Executive Officer, Dean's Office of the
Faculty of Health Sciences).
The selection process of the President's Service Excellence Award is moderated
by the Office of Institutional Planning and Process Improvement. "To
start with, an awardee should have shown excellent performance on the
job," explained Andre Nahhas, director of Institutional Planning.
"In addition, he or she should have demonstrated customer satisfaction
over a significant period of time and covering different aspects of the
job, giving evidence of creativity that leads to increased customer satisfaction
and positive feedback from customers."
The President's Service Excellence Award is given to AUB staff members
who have shown continuous outstanding performance. Since the year 2000,
four to six employees have been selected every year from among a number
of nominees.
