AUB Travels the World with New Set of Postcards

| AUB 2008 postcards |
The Office of Information and Public Relations recently issued a collection
of AUB postcards, thus reviving an AUB tradition that was last seen in
the 1960s. With the diversity of their content, the postcards bring to
light the beauty of the University's campus and also serve as an excellent
promotional tool for AUB.
"The idea came in response to the demand of many visitors who pass
by our office and the Visitors Bureau asking for souvenirs, such as postcards,"
said Ibrahim Khoury, the director of the Office of Information and Public
Relations. "In this collection, we try to show the different aspects
of the University-for example, its founder Daniel Bliss, installations
made in AUB's Master Plan, and much more."
The postcards are available in sets of ten. They include a recent photo
of Fisk Hall, the interior of the AUB Archaeological Museum, Daniel Bliss
at Main Gate, a view of the Nadim Khalaf Tennis Courts, the entrance to
AUBMC, the Green Field, a view of College Hall from the Charles Hostler
Student Center, and a view of Assembly Hall from Bliss Street.
"This is our pilot collection. Depending on its success, we plan
to issue more postcards of other AUB highlights, such as the Moore Photographic
Collection, AUB museum artifacts, and the like," added Khoury.
The photos on the postcards were taken by Mazen Jannoun of the Photography
Department; and the collection was designed by Zeina Tawil, graphic designer
at the Office of University Publications, and Cynthia Myntti, Neighborhood
Initiative Project Leader.
The earliest postcard found in the University Library Archives is labeled
"Syrian Protestant College" and dates back to 1898. This was
a time when messages were not allowed on the back of cards, which explains
the space left on the front for notes from the sender.
The postcards of 2008 were prepared by the Office of Information and Public
Relations and produced by the Office of University Publications. AUB 2008
postcards are now available at the AUB Bookstore.
