Chair of AUB's Board of Trustees Thomas Morris, AUB President John Waterbury, and Vice President of Medical Affairs and the Raja N. Khuri Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Nadim Cortas invited AUBMC faculty and staff to a ceremony on the afternoon of February 20 to celebrate AUBMC's accreditation by the Joint Commission International (JCI).
Lebanese Minister of Health Muhammad Khalifeh and former ministers of health Adnan Mroueh and Karam Karam joined Hospital Director Munthir Kuzayli and Chief of Staff Salim Kiblawi in a ceremony at the Gefinor Rotana Hotel that included vice presidents, deans, hospital administrators, and AUBMC staff and medical doctors. Sweaters bearing AUBMC's anniversary logos and JCI accreditation congratulations were distributed on the occasion.
Dr. Cortas praised the medical center employees for their accomplishments and commended the team for their success. According to Cortas, AUBMC exceeded expectations in fulfilling the requirements for JCI accreditation.
JCI is a division of Joint Commission Resources, one of the largest accrediting bodies of health care organizations in the United States, and surveys nearly 20,000 health care programs through a voluntary accreditation process. JCI granted AUBMC full accreditation on January 2, 2008.
AUBMC is the private, not-for-profit teaching center of the AUB Faculty of Medicine and includes a 420-bed hospital. The mission of AUBMC is to maintain a leadership role in consistently providing excellent, accessible, and comprehensive health services to the people in Lebanon and the region, while continuing and enhancing its tradition as a distinguished academic and research medical center. AUBMC this year is celebrating 140 years of medical education.
