Festival of Thinkers in the UAE
The United Arab Emirates organized a Festival of Thinkers from October
22 to 24. The conference gathered 16 Nobel Prize laureates and 80 international
thinkers well versed in the various fields of science, medicine, philosophy,
law, economy, and information technology.
Abdul Hamid Hallab, special adviser to the AUB president, and Hassan Diab,
vice president for Regional External Programs, were among those invited
to the festival. Diab served as a panelist discussing "Preparing Creative
and Responsible Citizens: Role of Educators" and Hallab was a panelist
in the discussions of "Moving Beyond Conflicts."
Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mubarak Al-Nahayan, UAE's Minister of Higher Educational
and Scientific Research, opened the festival. The participants discussed
in depth how to promote and care for creativity and thinking in society
on an international level. The event gave local and regional young thinkers
a fine opportunity to confer on the many challenges needed to plan for
a better future in their countries.
