AUB Pediatric Specialist Honored

Dr. Mohamad Mikati

Dr. Mohamad Mikati, professor and chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, was recently elected member of the Standing Committee of the International Pediatric Association (IPA). This is an honor extended to only 19 pediatricians from all over the world once every three years. Members of the committee are consulted on developing programs, policies, and strategic plans for child health in the world in collaboration with the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

Dr. Mikati will also lead a program on child development to address the needs of neurologically affected children. At the same time, he will be serving a second term on the Scientific Committee of the International Congress of Pediatrics that will be held by the IPA in 2010.

Dr. Mikati was selected as well as a member of the IPA Constitution Committee and was jointly picked by the boards of the IPA and the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA) to be the liaison officer between the two organizations. The ICNA is the sole organization that represents child neurologists from all over the world.

A world-renowned pediatric epilepsy researcher and clinician, Dr. Mikati is a regular speaker and symposium organizer at the World Congress of Epilepsy, the World Congress of Pediatrics, and the American Epilepsy Society. His remarkable achievements have provided much visibility to AUB's Faculty of Medicine.
