| "Pink Ladies" at the tea party |
The annual Toy Tea Party of the Women's Auxiliary, held this year on
June 7, was once again a most enjoyable event. Auxiliary members, along
with their many friends and supporters, gathered in the beautiful gardens
of Marquand House, where they were joined by Mrs. Sarah Waterbury and
Mrs. Olga Boukina, wife of the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon. Among those
also attending were Dr. Nadim Cortas, vice president and dean of the Medical
School; Munzer Kozeily, director of the Hospital; and Huda Huiger, director
of the School of Nursing. Their sincere words of admiration for the work
of the auxiliary, especially the great appreciation expressed by Dr. Cortas,
were very touching and instilled the "Pink Ladies" with renewed
energy.
The program began with Mrs. Leila Iliya, president of the auxiliary, welcoming
the guests. Then, with Director Huiger at her side, Mrs. Iliya distributed
annual awards to eight outstanding nursing students,
as well as a full scholarship to student Raja Issa for his exceptional
academic performance.
The musical program that followed was sponsored by the cultural office
of the Russian Embassy. It included much loved melodies of Rachmaninoff,
Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov, rendered by talented Lebanese Conservatory
musicians on the piano, clarinet, and cello, as well as some vocals by
the wonderful soprano, Nina Hawi.
It all ended, of course, with the usual rich table of delicious sandwiches,
pastries, and various refreshments. Truly a "high tea" befitting
the event.
