Mathematician Alain Connes Visits AUB

Professor Alain Connes, known for inventing the field of noncommunicative
geometry, visited AUB in late April to give talks and confer with mathematicians
at the University. He gave a colloquium, entitled "Noncommunicative
Geometry and Physics," on April 26.
Connes, one of the most renowned mathematicians in the world, is the
recipient of a number of prestigious awards, among them the Fields Medal
in 1982, the Clay Research Award in 2000, the Crafoord Prize of the Royal
Swedish Academy of Sciences in 2001, and the French CNRS Gold Medal in
2004.
