Construction Update
In early May, the Facilities Planning and Design Unit (FPDU) began the
first construction phase on Building 23 of the AUBMC complex of buildings.
By the end of the year 2006, the basement, three floors, and attic of
the T-shaped building will encompass a wound (burn) center, separate clinics
for endocrinology, rheumatology, pathology, internal medicine, nephrology
and hypertension, dermatology, and phototherapy, as well as a minor surgery
suite.
According to Shahan Marashlian, head of the construction division at AUBMC
and FPDU, this new facility will have an "elaborate interior design
scheme and a posh appearance," in line with the recent trend in hospitals
and medical centers. New floors were added to the originally constructed
building, in addition to underpinning, or lowering, the basement floor.
At present, the west wing of this building is being used by the School
of Business and will be until the new Suliman Olayan School of Business
building is completed.
