Dean Kisirwani raising the Lebanese flag |
AUB’s annual
tradition of celebrating Lebanese Flag Day, held on November 22, 2005, took
a more subdued tone this year as opposed to the festive mood of recent
previous years.
The ceremony began around noon, when AUB students, staff, and a number deans
and faculty members gathered in front of West Hall, all holding Lebanese
flags and singing the national anthem, as they watched a performance by a
regiment from the Lebanese Army.
Dean of Student Affairs Maroun Kisirwani gave a brief speech, in which he
expressed concern over the decay in moral values among people and
institutions in Lebanon. “If this unusual phenomenon persists, we will
witness a time in Lebanon worse than any time before…. My only advice to
you, students, is to shelter yourselves from corruption and overriding
immorality,” said Dean Kisirwani.
