Dr. Jabbur receiveing a medallion of honorary membership from Dr. Bond |
Dr. Suhayl Jabbur,
professor of physiology in the Faculty of Medicine, was one of six members
of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) selected this
year to receive honorary membership in the IASP as “acknowledgement of
outstanding contributions in the fields of pain research, management or
treatment…” and for “contributions to the activities of the association over
the years.”
The award was presented by Sir Michael R. Bond, president of IASP, during
the association’s general assembly, held on August 24. Earlier in 2005, Dr.
Jabbur was also invited to become a member of the Associate Editor Board of
the journal, PAIN, because he had shown “a strong willingness to make an
important contribution to the journal’s success by providing outstanding and
timely reviews as well as by contributing important papers in the field.”
PAIN, the publication of which is sponsored by the IASP, has the the highest
impact factor among all journals in the fields of anesthesia and pain.
The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) is an
international society that fosters and encourages research of pain
mechanisms and pain syndromes and helps improve the management of patients
with acute or chronic pain. In addition to basic neuroscientists,
anesthesiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, dentists, nurses,
oncologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists, membership listing by
specialties in the current IASP Directory includes about 40 other
subspecialties concerned with the field of pain. Founded in 1973 and
headquartered in Seattle, IASP has currently over 7,000 active members and
68 chapters around the world, including the Lebanese chapter (called the
Lebanese Society for the Study of Pain), which was founded in 1999.
