Adding to his long list of accomplishments through the years, Dr. Ghassan Hamadeh has been recently appointed as chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at the AUB Medical Center (AUBMC). Dr. Hamadeh received his MD from AUB in 1984. After having completed his training in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he was assistant residency program director for two years, he returned to Lebanon to assume several responsibilities at AUBMC within and outside the Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Hamadeh’s many tasks have included serving as department acting chair of Family Medicine for two years, as assistant dean of Family Medicine for one year, as director of University Health Services for the last ten years, as president of the Lebanese Society of Family Medicine for three years, and as an ongoing consultant of developed advanced skills in practice management and medical informatics. Dr. Hamadeh is the recipient of a number of research grants related to his work on informatics and quality improvement projects at both AUB and the Ministry of Public Health. His most recent project was the implementation of Pay for Performance and a group practice program for family medicine providers. Dr. Hamadeh has chaired and cochaired the last six Middle East Medical Assembly programs. He has also published in the areas of community-oriented primary care, medical education, medical ethics, management and health informatics, and health promotion and disease prevention.
