The Olayan School of Business held its first Senior Case Competition May 31, 2005, in West Hall's Bathish Auditorium. The event was sponsored by Meatel (Middle East Telecommunications, SAL) and Nokia.

The competition engaged senior undergraduate participants who were enrolled in the Business School's capstone course of strategic management. Based on peer evaluations, the top three teams from a total of eight sections were invited to present their analysis of a common business case in front of a panel of external judges who volunteered their time in order to enrich the learning experience at OSB. The panel consisted of Ms. Nelly Abu Zaki (Deputy comptroller, AUB; Mr. Bilal Fakhoury Villeroy & Boch export

manager for Middle East, North Africa and West Asia; and Mr. Samer Halawi Inmarsat regional manager for Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia.

Based on the judges' close evaluation of each team's presentation, Team No. 2 finished the competition in second place. As sponsor of this year's event, Meatel and Nokia presented each of the team members, Rawan Abi Abboud, Jean Anid, Philip Merjeh, Ziad Nasr, and Lara Safar, with a Nokia 6020.

The winner of this year's competition was Team 180o Consulting. Team members Nour Abdel-Al, Nariman Hamadeh, Dima Itani, Yasmina Kreik, and Maya Mroue each received from the sponsors a recently released Nokia 7710 in recognition of their substantial academic achievement and hard work.

The competition was the result of a continuous effort at OSB to provide students with dynamic and interactive learning experiences. Given that senior business students will soon be entering the work force, the competition was designed to introduce them to some of the challenges that they will soon be facing as business professionals, including: (i) operating in a highly competitive environment; (ii) working within a team-oriented structure; and (iii) being evaluated by experienced business professionals. The Olayan School of Business aims to build on the success of this year's event and to continue providing its participants with a thriving learning environment.
