Even before launching its centennial year in January 2005, opening the door on many special events, the School of Nursing (SoN) started its activities with a plan to donate the proceeds of the Christmas party held by the Nursing Student Society (NSS) in December 2004 to the Brave Heart Fund—a charitable fundraising association that was established in 2003 to help needy families with children suffering from cardiac diseases by covering their medical or surgical expenses. On the second of February, the NSS committee presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to Dr. Nadim Cortas (vice president for Medical Affairs and Raja N. Khouri Dean of the Faculty of Medicine), in the presence of SoN Director Huda Huijer, NSS Adviser Dina Shehab, Walid Katergi (associate director of the Development Office and representative of the Brave Heart Fund), NSS President Wassef Osmani, NSS Vice President Abdel-Latif Marini, and NSS Treasurer Grace Nasr.
