Six students came out winners in the first Stock Track Competition held by the AUB Business Student Society. The competition, initiated by Professor Karim Rebeiz of the Suliman S. Olayan School of Business, awarded a total of $4,000 in cash prizes provided by the BLOM Bank in Lebanon. The nature of the contest was a “virtual” exercise. Students entering the competition were each given $50,000 of virtual money to invest in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, futures, and commodities and currencies in different exchanges around the world. As Professor Rebeiz explained it, “The competition is designed to give students hands-on experience in learning about the nuts and bolts of investment strategies, with the aim of helping them avert the costly mistakes one might make when dealing with real money.” Saad Azhari, vice president of BLOM Bank, joined Professor Rebeiz in awarding the prizes at a luncheon held on July 2. The winners were Ammar Queider and Nadim Outry (joint winners of the $1,500 first prize), Nicolas Joun (second prize of $1,000),Wissam Mehsen (third prize of $750), Ziad Zougheib (fourth prize of $400), Nathaly Challita (fifth prize of $200), and Maen Fadel (sixth prize of $150).
