The Office of Student Affairs recently announced that three new directors will join the team as part of its effort to improve student services. 1.
Dr Antoine Khabbaz, Director of the Counseling Center, joined at the
beginning of the semester. He took his PhD in Anthropology with Distinction
at Lyon III University in France in 1994. His thesis focuses on "Issues
of identity and psychological determinance of Otherness in multi-cultural
settings." He has a long and impressive background in the field
of psychology, most recently practiced in Australia. Maroun
Kisirwani Acting Dean of Student Affairs, hopes this new appointment
will raise the profile of the counseling center as an important service
for students who want support in such areas as exam stress, feelings
of isolation and |
depression, low self esteem, addiction or when students feel they simply need to talk to someone in complete confidence. 2. Rima Farhat, Director of Student Housing and Resident Life, is a graduate of LAU. She has just taken up her post where her task is to ensure quality student living in the dorms. This semester there was high student demand to live on campus due to major improvements in the dorms. This includes the renovation of Murex Hall for women and the installation of AC units in Bustani Hall. Ms Farhat will continue to improve the physical aspect of the buildings in cooperation with the Physical Plant, but she will also play a special role in creating an atmosphere of communal living. Ms Farhat has experience as a community development officer for the UN, as an instructor, and most recently as a manager of a center for teaching. |
3.Wadad Husseini, Director of Student Activities, was selected from among a competitive panel of applicants for this post. She is not new to AUB, building a strong reputation as a research assistant in the Provost's Office. She has experience with student activities as associate coordinator for the Folk Dance Committee. She has also participated in the Outdoors festival and other student activities. Ms. Husseini's experience in organization, her interpersonal skills and academic background (Candidate of Doctorate of Education at the University of Leicester, UK), make her well placed to provide improved and more productive activities for the student body. | |||||||
