Mount Lebanon Alumni Association Activities

Pinning Ceremony
On September 13, the Mount Lebanon Branch of the AUB Alumni Association held a pinning ceremony for the new graduates of 2001 on the beautiful terrace of branch President Samir Abou Samra's home in Adma. The 120 graduates were offered the branch's round lapel pins featuring a cedar tree and membership in the association for the first year free of charge.
President Abou Samra opened the ceremony by introducing the chairmen and executives of the acting committees. He set forth the future plans of the branch and the heavily charged program of activities for the coming six months, stressing the importance of the relations between the graduates and their alma mater.
Thanking Mr. Samir Kadi, director of alumni affairs at AUB, for attending the ceremony and for the support he gives to all graduates, the president then asked the director to address the group. Chairman of the Board Nabil Torbey and former Chairman Samir Abou Jawdeh addressed the graduates as well.
Later the president of the Relations and Welfare Committee, Mr. Ziad Yaacoub, started the pinning procedure after explaining the functions of the committee and its goals.
The ceremony concluded with a gala dinner for the participating graduates and other alumni members.

September Chouf Expedition
The Chouf Cultural-environment and Sports Committee of the Mount Lebanon Branch organized in collaboration with the Iqleem Committee an expedition in the Chouf area on September 15 and 16. The event included a Saturday evening and night at Ramlieh, a special environmentally controlled place at the foot of the Barouk reserve, offering healthy meals and unparalleled natural beauty. In the evening the participants enjoyed singing, dancing, and games.

On Sunday, September 16, more than one hundred Mount Lebanon alumni took a guided tour, preceded by an introductory film, about the Barouk cedar reserve, a large area of some 550 square kilometers, fully 5 percent of the total area of Lebanon.
The participants enjoyed a traditional Arab lunch by the beautiful waters of Ain Mershed in Moukhtara.
