The President's Club continues its efforts to solicit funds for university
projects, particularly those projects having direct impact on student
life on campus. Members of the club donate to a special fund which is
used in consultation with President Waterbury and approved by the administrative
board of the President's Club.
In 2001 the club initiated the bench campaign to raise additional funds
for student projects. In this campaign alumni and friends are invited
to reserve for private dedication one of the green benches on campus.
A donation of $5,000 will allow a plaque to be fixed to the bench, inscribed,
as the donor wishes, with nice memories of AUB days or wishes for loved
ones. Five benches have been dedicated since the campaign began. The most
recent dedications include one made in July by Mr. Ramzi N. Kteily, an
active member of the AUB Alumni Association of Abu Dhabi, in memory of
his parents Nicholas and Violette Kteily, and another made in September
by Mr. Nabil and Mrs. Jomana Zeineddin, who hope that their children Nayla,
Heba, Ibrahim, and many other students will benefit from and enjoy the
AUB experience.
Mrs. Laila Baroudi, chairperson of the President's Club, hopes many more
benches will be dedicated in the near future and that all 72 AUB benches
will eventually carry inscriptions of special memories. All those interested
in having a bench inscribed should contact Mr. Ibrahim Khoury, director
of the Office of Information and Public Relations (telephone: 03-241660),
or Mr. Sadik Al-Assa'd, associate director of development (telephone:
01-340176).
