Science, Mathematics, and Technology Fair
Over 1,000 people attended the Eighth Annual Science, Mathematics and Technology Fair held April 27-29. The AUB Education Students Society (ESS) in collaboration with the Science and Math Education Center (SMEC) organized the event, which took place at the indoor basketball court.
The aim of this year's fair was to encourage school, parent, and student involvement in the learning process outside the regular curriculum. It also promote creativity, initiative, collaborative skills, and independent thinking among mathematics and science students . This year for the first time, schools could submit projects specifically devoted to mathematics or technology investigations.
Twenty-four participating schools, more than ever before, came from throughout Lebanon to exhibited their creative projects. These included 280 projects, with about 700 elementary, intermediate, and secondary students participating.
The opening ceremony was held on April 27 in the Science Lecture Hall. Dr. Marj Henningsen, SMEC Director, and Dr. Khalil Bitar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, welcomed the attendees. Parents and families, teachers, and students from participating schools took part, as well as students from three other visiting schools and members of the AUB community. More than 40 AUB professors, experienced teachers, and senior education students specializing in math and science volunteered in evaluating the projects.
Awards and closing ceremonies were held in the Science Lecture Hall on April 29. Dr. Hussein Yaghi, Associate Professor and ESS advisor, Dr. Henningsen, and ESS members awarded 24 major prizes with nine projects receiving honorable mention.
